Are all turmeric supplements the same?
By Distriphil Web Admin

TURMERIC (Cucurma longa L.) is an herb native to Southwest India and is widely used as a culinary spice.[1] Turmeric belongs to the ginger family, and is commonly referred to in the Philippines as luyang dilaw. It is widely cultivated in the Philippines and has become an essential part of Filipino and Asian cuisine. More than its value in adding flair and the distinct yellow color to dishes, turmeric has also been known for its medicinal value across several cultures.

In the Ayurvedic tradition, turmeric is thought to have several medicinal benefits such as boosting overall energy of the body. Modern studies on turmeric also demonstrate that it possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties.  [1] These properties help deliver health benefits especially in the fast-paced and highly stressful environments where we live.

The popularity of turmeric among health-savvy individuals has brought an increased availability of turmeric supplements in the Philippines. Now, turmeric supplements are almost ubiquitous, and found in several malls, supermarket and drugstore outlets. But are all turmeric supplements the same?

CUCURMIN is the most active chemical compound in turmeric [2] that is chiefly responsible for turmeric’s beneficial effects. The health effects of cucurmin, which may help in inflammatory conditions, stress, arthritis and hyperlipidemia is hugely because of its potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. [3]

While cucurmin in turmeric is beneficial, cucurmin in itself is poorly absorbed by the body. This is because cucurmin is rapidly metabolized and easily eliminated from our system. Because of this, people who take plain turmeric supplements may not be reaping the full health benefits of cucurmin. [3]

To maximize the beneficial effects of cucurmin, it needs an “helper” compound to improve its absorption in the body. Fortunately, there is such a “helper compound” and it is called PIPERINE. PIPERINE is a major active chemical derived from black pepper. Studies show that when combined with cucurmin, piperine can increase the bioavailability of cucurmin in the body by up to 2000%. [3] The combined power of cucurmin and piperine will allow the person to maximize the health benefits of turmeric supplements.

Luckily, people need not look further for turmeric supplements with piperine because Evorganix, with its partnership with Distriphil, has TURMETAB®. TURMETAB® is a turmeric supplement boosted with piperine. TURMETAB® is the first Philippine FDA-approved turmeric with piperine food supplement in the country. And because it comes in tablet form, it is so easy and convenient to take. Each tablet of TURMETAB® contains 550 milligrams of turmeric with 5 milligrams of piperine, a formulation designed to help boost and maintain health and wellness.
